A 3-Day Challenge

Your mission, Mr. Phelps, should you choose to accept it, is to change the world for 3 days.

Yes, that's it. For the next three days, you are invited to change the world for people you encounter. Nothing huge. In fact, you won't even work up a sweat.

Here's your mission:

Starting today, you will try to find something positive about the people you interact with.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • If you're in line at a grocery store, take the time to notice something positive the cashier does and compliment it.

  • Is there someone you admire that you haven't talked to in a long time? Send them a text, an email, or even call them and tell them why you think so positively about them.

  • If you get out of the house, use the services of a struggling local business and tell the person you appreciate the services or products they offer.

  • If there is someone who drives you a little crazy, take a few minutes to think of one good thing about them. Okay, it might take a few more minutes. But when you do, be brave and share it with them. Whew, that one was tough, wasn't it?

  • Smile at someone you pass. They might not see it behind the mask, but they'll see your eyes. And for that person, it will matter.

  • If you deal with a service person on the phone, tell them you appreciate the challenges they must face with angry customers and wish them good luck.

  • Post one positive thought on social media. It could just be a comment or a like on someone's post to let them know you appreciated it. You can even mention why you liked their post.

See how many times you can do some of these over the next three days. See if someone else notices your positive attitude. And recognize whether doing this a few times actually improves your attitude.

Then consider coming back here and telling us about any of those experiences and how it felt. We're ready to share stories and see if, together, we've made our corner of the world better for 3 days. Then we can decide if we might want to try for 4?

Make it a great day! For you. And for them.
